Finance Subcommittee

About our Committee

Finance assists the Area Committee, Districts and Groups on matters of finance and shares on the principles of the Seventh Tradition, and may assist the Area Treasurer in preparing the annual budget proposal. (Area 59 Structure Manual, page 21)

The Finance Subcommittee works directly with the officers and subcommittee chairs to inquire about information needed for the budget, as well as analyzing past financial information to develop an accurate budget. We create presentations on financial matters, such as opening bank accounts, obtaining EIN numbers, and virtual contribution options. We use these presentations at workshops and district meetings to share on the principles of the 7th tradition. The Finance subcommittee also reviews other financial information for the Area, such as mileage reimbursement and prudent reserve, to ensure that the Area is being best served.

The Long Form of our Seventh Tradition states, “The A.A. groups themselves ought to be fully supported by the voluntary contributions of their own members. We think that each group should soon achieve this ideal; that any public solicitation of funds using the name of Alcoholics Anonymous is highly dangerous, whether by groups, clubs, hospitals, or other outside agencies; that acceptance of large gifts from any source, or of contributions carrying any obligation whatever, is unwise. Then, too, we view with much concern those A.A. treasuries which continue, beyond prudent reserves, to accumulate funds for no stated A.A. purpose. Experience has often warned us that nothing can so surely destroy our spiritual heritage as futile disputes over property, money and authority.” The Twelve Traditions, p.190-191
